Šimon Fikar was 12 years old (D.O.B. = 24-Oct-2006) when he debuted as Billy Elliot in the Czech production of BETM at the New Stage DJKT in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
Prior to BETM, Šimon’s only previous acting experience has been some dubbing work, so this will be the first time he has performed on a stage. He first auditioned for the role of Billy in 2018. The director of BETM in Pilsen, Lumír Olšovský, had this to say about the challenge of casting their Billys, “For the extremely difficult role of Billy Elliot, after many auditions, we selected two talented boys who had to undergo several months of intensive dance training.”
The intensive dance training that Olšovský refers to began in October 2018 and has continued right up until the opening of the show in May 2019. Šimon said this about how the dance training led onto the rehearsals, “In terms of training, it was only a small part of what awaited us during the rehearsal, when we had to master choreography, singing and acting. While we are excited about such a beautiful occasion, we are also very nervous about it.”
Šimon’s debut performance as Billy on 14-May-2019 makes him the 269th actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
