Billy Elliot the Musical (BETM) returns to Japan in 2024, after very successful previous runs in 2017 and 2020. The 2024 production plays at Brillia Hall in Tokyo from July 27 to October 26 and then transfers to Sky Theatre MBS in Osaka for performances between November 9-24.
The search for the next generation of Japanese Billys began in July 2023, when auditions were announced. After this followed months of auditions and training for the potential child stars. Six months later, on January 18, 2024, it was announced that the Japanese production had found their four Billys. They are Ryoma Asada, Kamui Haruyama, Uichiro Inoue and Eito Ishiguro.
A press event was held in February 2024 to promote this production of BETM. The four Billys joined forces to perform a group version of Electricity:
