The original production of BETM closed in London on April 9, 2016 after 11 years. A production of the show ran for over three years on Broadway before its close there in January of 2012, and the Elton John/Lee Hall show has also been seen in countless other venues around the world.
Initially, the show was done in only English speaking countries (i.e. England, Australia, USA and Canada). But when a production of the show opened in Seoul, South Korea on August 10, 2010 a new milestone had been reached — the first time a BETM production had been mounted in a place where English wasn’t the primary language. Since then, there have been several other productions mounted in languages other than English, including Danish, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Icelandic and Estonian. And, in the future, there are plans for the show to be performed in still other languages as well, as you can see from the charts below.
In this article, we’ve compiled information on all past, current and potential future productions of the popular musical so the reader will have an at-a-glance place to view all production information. Please note that start dates listed in some locations include previews.
For easy reference, the charts have been placed behind three tabs: Current Productions, Future Productions, Past Productions.
