The Australian production of Billy Elliot the Musical opened in previews at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on November 13, 2007 and ran there until November 9, 2008.
The show then moved to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, opening there on December 13, 2008. The final performance in Melbourne (and in all of Australia) was on June 14, 2009.
Three of the Australian Billys (Michael Dameski, Dayton Tavares and Daniel Russell) later performed in the Broadway or the North American Tour productions of the show. In addition, actress Genevieve Lemon who played Mrs. Wilkinson for the entire Australian run of the show, later reprised the role in the London production.
