A regional production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) will take place at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois (just north of Chicago) presented by Music Theater Works, from December 23, 2021 (which will also be press night) to January 2, 2022.

The North Shore Performing Arts Center, which opened in November of 1996, is a two-theater complex operating as part of the Village of Skokie plan to provide cultural, literary and educational programs to benefit Chicago’s North Shore.  The facility features an 867-seat mainstage theater and a convertible 318-seat theater. BETM will be presented in the mainstage theater.

Music Theater Works is a resident professional not-for-profit music theater, headquartered in Wilmette, IL where it has Administrative Offices and a Rehearsal Center.  All shows are presented at the North Shore Performing Arts Center in Skokie.  Music Theater Works was founded in 1980.  Its stated mission is: to present works for the musical stage, creating a bridge for all audiences from classic works to the present day; to develop the next generation of theater professionals and patrons; and to engage the community in music, theater, and the arts.

Since its first production in 1981, when it was known as Light Opera Works, Music Theater Works strives to present a variety of entertainment for its audiences.  To give the reader a sense of that, other productions in this 2021 season have included Legends of the 50’s & 60’s, Mamma Mia, and most recently Ragtime.  On the schedule for the 2022 season are: La Cage Aux Folles (Mar/Apr), Disney’s The Little Mermaid (June), Zorro The Musical (August), Camelot (Oct/Nov), and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (Dec/Jan). BETM was originally scheduled as part of Music Theater Works’ 2020 season, to be produced in December of that year.  Because of the pandemic, BETM and the rest of the 2020 season were postponed, with BETM re-scheduled for the same month in 2021.

In August of 2020, auditions were held for the BETM cast and rehearsals began in September for some of the principal members of the cast.  The names of the leading members of the creative team can be seen in the graphic above.
