Spinning Tree Theatre will present a production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) from April 4-20, 2019 at the Just Off Broadway Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri.
Spinning Tree Theatre was founded in 2010 by Andrew and Michael Grayman-Parkhurst after their successful careers on Broadway and across the world as performers and director/choreographers. Spinning Tree is Kansas City’s newest Actors’ Equity Association theatre, operating under a Small Professional Theatre contract. The company exclusively utilizies local talent and aims to produce works that celebrate and reflect the diversity of Kansas City itself by exploring a variety of cultures and art forms through theatre, music and dance. Spinning Tree Theatre is a member of Theatre Communications Group and produces four annual productions of plays and musicals each season.
A season at Spinning Tree usually includes a new and/or a lesser known musical, one or two plays and a large, well-known musical.
For example, the last full season (2017-18) contained the shows: Finian’s Rainbow, Casa Valentina, Full Gallop, and Once On This Island. For the recently announced 2019-20 season, shows to be presented are: Every Brilliant Thing, Caroline, or Change, Girlfriend, and La Cage Aux Folles.
In addition to BETM, which concludes the eighth season at Spinning Tree (2018-19), shows have included Daddy Long Legs (Aug 17-Sep 2, 2018), The Nance (Nov 2-18, 2018) and Emotional Creatures: The Secret Life of Girls Around The World (Jan 17-Feb 3, 2019).
Ben Renfrow, a newcomer to the title role of Billy Elliot, will lead the small cast of local talent.
