Theatrical production company McCoy Rigby Entertainment mounted a regional production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM), which was presented at the La Mirada Theatre in La Mirada California (Jan 16 to Feb 8, 2015), followed by a short run at the Alex Theatre in Glendale California (Feb 20-22, 2015).
The show was to feature the veteran BETM actors Noah Parets as Billy and Jake Kitchin as his best friend Michael. The two played those roles in the show in 2012/13 as members of the cast of the North American Tour production of BETM. In the summer of 2014, Noah also played Billy in the 2nd US regional production at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.
Unfortunately, a week before the show was to open, Noah was injured during rehearsal and had to withdraw from the show. After a bit of scurrying around, Executive Producer Tom McCoy was able to procure the services of another North American Tour Billy who had finished performing the role at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London in July 2014 — Mitchell Tobin.
With just four days to rehearse before Opening Night, Mitchell had a formidable task to prepare for the opening, but he surmounted all obstacles and was ready, with the reviews from that evening indicating he nailed it with an outstanding performance.
There were 21 performances of the show at La Mirada, with the final show there on Sunday February 8th.
After a two week break, the same cast reconvened at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California for three additional performances, for a total of 24 shows.
