Keystone State Music Theater (KSMT) will present a production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) at the Rotary Amphitheater in Cranberry Township (PA) Community Park, from Aug. 11-18, 2017.
KSMT was founded in 2013 by Chris and Alison Rose Saunders. Chris is the Producing Artistic Director and Alison holds the title of Education Director.
Keystone State Music Theater’s mission statement: KSMT is dedicated to enriching the public and the region through exceptional musical theater, and to impacting lives positively beyond the stage through innovative education and community outreach initiatives.
The organization does the above in a variety of ways, offering classes for children from ages 3 to 18 in the theater arts, singing, dancing and acting. This is done primarily, during the school year, via its KSMT Academy and there are also summer programs. Classes are offered ranging from beginners to pre-professional for older students. Private instruction in dance, voice and acting is also available. A complete listing of all KSMT’s educational programs can be found on its website.
With regard to performances produced by KSMT for the general public, there are various performances throughout the year given by different age level groups within the KSMT education program. For the past several summers, the highlight of KSMT’s performance year has been its Pro Series, a full blown professional musical presented by equity and non-equity actors. The series has seen great success and that continues with this year’s presentation of BETM.
A small cast, for a typical production of BETM, of 23 actors and actresses, including KSMT’s usual mix of equity and non-equity performers, will be led by a young man making his debut both as Billy Elliot in BETM and also in a professional performance of a musical. His name is Blaise Meanor.
