Final Tour Stop
June 28-July 23, 2017
The long awaited Billy Elliot the Musical (BETM) tour began on 24-Feb-2016. Initially announced as making 10 stops — many of 30 days or longer duration — the Tour’s itinerary included theatres in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Three additional tour locations were later added, including a final stop in Hamburg in Germany. The tour ended there on 23-Jul-2017. The complete itinerary can be seen here.
The cast was originally led by four boys who were debuting as Billy Elliot and who alternated in the role at different performances. On 10-Feb-2016 it was announced that the boys originating the role of Billy on the Tour would be Adam Abbou, Matthew Lyons, Haydn May and Lewis Smallman. During the last week of the tour’s stop in Bristol, in November 2016, a fifth Billy was added to the cast. His name is Emile Gooding. And, on 28-Nov-2016, it was announced that Matthew Lyons had left the show.
In an interview by What’s On Stage, Scott Garnham (who played Billy’s older brother Tony for the entire length of the tour), had this to say about the four boys who were playing Billy at the time: “We have four different Billy’s who are quite literally the most talented people I have ever met. They can sing, backflip off a piano, tap-dance, do ballet and fly. When you’re having a rough day and you’re thinking it’s hard, you look at what they have to do and you think: I should probably shut up.”
In May 2016, in order to promote the upcoming tour stop in Dublin, the cast was invited to perform on Ireland’s The Late Late Show. Tour Billys Adam and Lewis were joined by past London Billy, Brodie Donougher, and they performed a special rendition of Electricity:
