Debut: January 23, 2025 (Geelong, Australia)
Total Performances as Billy to Date: 0 (As of 31-Dec-2024)
Luka Sero was 10 years old (D.O.B. = 3-Mar-2014) when he debuted as Billy at the Geelong Arts Centre in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
Because of his busy performing schedule, Luka (and his older brother Sebastian) are homeschooled. His dance training has taken place at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance, The Space and currently at the Australian Ballet School. He has private teachers for jazz, tap and acro. Luka is coached in accents and vocals by his mother — Anezka Sero — who also travels around with him and his brother while they perform in various theatre shows/films.
Despite his young age, Luka already has an impressive performing resume. His previous theatre credits include:
- John Bechdel in Fun Home (Melbourne/Sydney Theatre Company, 2022)
- Michael Banks in Mary Poppins (Australian National Tour, 2023)
- Young Elvis in Elvis: A Musical Revolution (David Vann Enterprises, 2024)
- Bronson in Round the Twist (Queensland Theatre, 2024)
- Children’s chorus and soloist in La Boheme (Melbourne Opera, 2024)
He also played the role of Small Boy in CLOC Musical Theatre’s production of BETM in May 2024. In that production his older brother Sebastian was one of two boys playing the role of Billy. Luka is excited to now get his chance to step up into the lead role too — Sebastian and Luka will be alternating as Billy in the Geelong production.
Luka’s screen credits include:
- Blacklight (Mark Williams, 2022, starring opposite Liam Neeson)
- Tobias in Shayda (an Oscar nominated Australian independent film)
- James in The Magic Beach (Robert Connolly, 2024)
Luka says that playing Billy is “like a dream come true. I watched Seb rehearse and perform the role for months and part of me wished I could be up there on stage with him, doing Electricity and Angry Dance too, which are my favourite numbers. I’m so glad I played Small Boy with CLOC because I got to watch the show and learn a lot, and Small Boy, played by Charlton Keogh in Footlight’s production, is doing an amazing job in the role, as are all the kids in our cast, including Harrison Coppock, who is the funniest Michael, and he’s really good at tap! Performing the role of Billy now though is just so special. I don’t even have words. It’s like electricity! It’s everything I hoped it would be and I just get carried away every time I’m on stage… I’m going to be so sad when it ends!”
With his debut performance as Billy on 23-Jan-2025, Luka becomes the 371st young actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
