Carl Sjögren was 14 years old when he debuted as Billy in the Stockholm production of BETM. He is in the 8th grade at the Royal Swedish Ballet School.
Carl has been acting for many years. His first role was on TV in En busslast kärlek (A busload of love) produced by SVT (Sweden’s national broadcaster) when he was just five years old. His other TV appearances include a series of Solsidan and the title role in Elias. In recognition of his starring role in the short film Trädfolket (Tree People), Carl was named best actor at the 2009 November Festival. This film can be viewed below:

Carl is also an experienced dancer and, through being a student at the Royal Swedish Ballet School, he has appeared in many productions with the Royal Ballet, including:
- Giselle
- Swan Lake
- Don Quixote
- Raymonda
- The Nutcracker
Carl’s first involvement with BETM in Sweden came in 2016 when, after a lengthy audition process, he was chosen as one of three young actors to play the role of Michael in the production in Malmö. He performed alongside Oliver Lohk as Billy.
For the Stockholm production Carl has “graduated” into the lead role of Billy Elliot. His debut as Billy on 9-Feb-2017 makes him the 182nd actor worldwide to play the role.
