Darshan Geer was 13 years old when he made his debut as Billy Elliot in YES Theatre’s production of BETM at the Sudbury Theatre Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.
Darshan has been dancing from a young age and he is currently a competitive dancer with Extreme Dance Studio in Coniston, ON. He competes regularly throughout the dance season with much success, including recently winning the Musical Theatre Category at the 2017 View Dance Challenge.
Despite being a seasoned dancer, Darshan has no previous acting or singing experience, so Billy Elliot will be his first theatrical role. The director of BETM at YES Theatre, Alessandro Costantini, is confident that Darshan will shine as Billy. He said, “When he auditioned for us — and we had a lot of really great candidates — he kind of just really possessed all the things that Billy innately has. First of all, you look at him and you hear him talk, and you don’t really know he’s a dancer at all. He doesn’t exude that, really. But then he gets on stage and something lights within him, and it’s real exciting.”
