Eleven-year-old Joon-hyung Park became the fifth Billy in South Korea when he made his debut at the LG Arts Center in Seoul on Saturday, January 1, 2011.
Before getting the role, he had watched the movie ‘Billy Elliot’, fell in love with it and started ballet at Universal Ballet Theatre. He was also the first applicant for the audition for ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’ in 2009. During the audition process, Joon-hyung got the most votes at the internet poll where people voted for their favorite contestant to be Billy after watching videos of them. Although at the time he had only studied ballet for less than a year, he grew up fast, exhibiting a pure passion for the role.
Along with the other four Billys, he was on the cover of the August issue of the magazine The Musical. Asked in the interview what it feels like when dancing, he said, “I feel like floating on the clouds, flying the sky like birds or butterflies, I feel good when I’m dancing.”
