Josva Bereket George Kiserud was 13 years old when he made his debut in the title role in Billy Elliot The Musical at The National Theatre in Bergen.
Josva auditioned for the role of Billy in Bergen without having taken ballet classes before. “You have to be strong, have good balance, know a lot of different things”, says Josva, when talking about learning ballet.
Ballet may be unfamiliar to Josva, but he does have experience in acting and singing, and has appeared on stage before. He played a featured role in a show called Children of the Moon at Fana Kulturhus in Bergen in August 2022.
The training/rehearsal period for BETM has been intense, with the boys often having to rehearse from 11-4 each day.
“It’s a bit awkward to miss out on social activities at school, but it’s so much fun here that it makes up for it”, says Josva.
With his debut performance on 30-Jan-2024, Josva becomes the 349th young actor worldwide to play the role of Billy in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
