Kairu Nakamura was 11 years old (born in 2008) when he made his debut as Billy in the Japanese production of BETM in Tokyo. He is the youngest of the four Billys in this production.
Kairu is an accomplished singer and is a member of the boys soprano group “Soprano♪7Boys”. The only form of dance that Kairu had done prior to his involvement in BETM was tap dance, so he felt that he had a lot to catch up on during the audition process.
Kairu thinks that the reason he was cast as Billy, despite not having done ballet previously, was that he didn’t give up and he always did his best, and he was able to put his heart into the acting and singing.
Kairu’s debut performance as Billy on 12-Sep-2020 makes him the 296th young actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
