Carl-Emil Lohmann was 13-years-old (D.O.B. = 31-Aug-2001) upon his debut as Billy. He’s from Lejre, Kobenhavn, which is west of Copenhagen. He has an older sister, Sophie, who is an actress. When he debuted on 22-Jan-2015, Carl became the 84th boy in the world to play Billy professionally.
Carl attended a performing arts school in Roskilde called the Scene Kunst Skoler.
His previous theatre credits include Love Never Dies, the October 24, 2012 to April 21, 2013 musical presented at the same Det Ny Teater in Cophenhagen where BETM will take place. Carl’s performance as Gustave earned kudos from one reviewer who cited his “beautiful voice”. Another Billy, Oscar Dietz, also played one of the children in the show.
That voice earned him a place in the children’s choir of the musical Evita, also at the Det Ny Teater in 2014.
Carl also has a movie credit on his resume, having appeared in the 2014 film Backgammon as young Erik.
He has appeared in a commercial and a short film.
After BETM closed in Denmark, Carl-Emil recorded a cover of Adele’s When We Were Young, showing off his very impressive singing voice:
