Hyun-jun Joo was 12 years old when he debuted as Billy in the third South Korean production of BETM in Seoul. His favourite style of dance is tap.
The first musical that Hyun-jun performed in was A Christmas Carol. More recently he appeared in Big Fish at Seoul Arts Centre from Dec 2019 to Feb 2020.
When Hyun-jun went for the first audition to play Billy, he thought, “Let’s just have fun.” Then when he got through to the second and third auditions his confidence grew because of all the hard work he had put in. One thing he has found difficult is having to wear a mask during training and rehearsals.
The final audition was in January 2021, after which Hyun-jun learned that he had been cast as one of the four Billys.
Out of all the musicals that Hyun-jun has appeared in, this is the first one where a young child is the lead. He is looking forward to being able to perform in front of an audience and hearing their applause.

With his debut performance as Billy on 2-Sep-2021, Hyun-jun becomes the 307th young actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
In the future Hyun-jun would like to become a tap dancer, a musical actor or a ballet dancer.
