Presented by Footlight Productions, the Geelong Arts Centre will host a production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) in Geelong, a port city in Victoria, Australia, from January 17 to February 2, 2025.
Established in 1981 the Geelong Arts Centre is the major provider of arts experiences in Geelong and the surrounding area. It welcomes 180,00 visitors and 15,000 artists across multiple theatres, studios and creative spaces.
It is also home to Creative Engine, an artist-development initiative that supports local artists and creative industries through professional development, workshops, networking, events and funding opportunities.​
In 2011, with advocacy from Geelong Art Centre’s Trust, local community and with support from the Victorian State Government, a redevelopment journey began that sought to build a world class arts centre for Geelong.
The redevelopment, which opened in August 2023, provides Geelong and the region with a vibrant, inclusive and dynamic creative centre. The centre is now recognised as a cornerstone of Geelong’s cultural tourism.
BETM will be presented at the Centre’s largest venue called The Playhouse, a 764-seat proscenium arch theatre that provides a warm, magical atmosphere popular with performers and audiences alike.
Footlight Productions was formed in 2003 and provides Geelong audiences with more opportunities to witness the wide range of highly skilled performers from the local area and also gives more people the chance to perform on stage under the leadership of an experienced and supportive production team.
Since its inception, Footlight has enjoyed great success with the staging of some of the most successful musicals in Geelong. These include the very popular Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cats, The Boy From Oz, West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Les Miserables and local premiere productions of Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins and Wicked.
Billy Elliot The Musical
It was announced in November 2023 that Footlight Productions would be mounting BETM in January 2025, directed by Alister Smith.
On their search to find a pair of young actors to play Billy, the production team were fortunate enough to find two exceptional talents in the same family! They are Sebastian Sero and his younger brother Luka Sero. This will be Sebastian’s second time playing Billy – he performed the role in a production in Melbourne in May 2024. Luka was also in that production in the role of Small Boy, but this will be his first time playing Billy. The two brothers have been in rehearsals since September 2024.
