Carson Burr was 11-years-old (D.O.B = 4-Apr-2005) when he debuted as Billy at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium in Brandon, MB. Carson shares the lead role in the Mecca Productions show with his older brother, Brody. In the performances when Brody is playing Billy, Carson will star alongside him as Michael.
Carson’s dance training has taken place at Steppin’ Time Dance Studio and at Dance Images, both located in Brandon. He has competed in many dance competitions including the 2016 Brandon Festival of the Arts where he won the ‘Reesor Jewellery Award for Tap’. At the 2016 Rolling River Festival for the Arts Carson received scholarships for his hip hop trio and his tap solo.
In terms of previous theatrical experience, Carson has appeared in many shows with 7 Ages Productions. He was in their production of Oedipus, he shared the role of ‘Michael Banks’ with his brother Brody in Mary Poppins, and most recently starred as ‘Oliver’ in their 2016 production of Oliver! BETM won’t be Carson’s first time performing with Mecca Productions as in January 2014 they joined forces with 7 Ages Productions to produce Les Miserables, in which Carson was one of two boys to share the role of ‘Gavroche’.
When Carson was just a couple of weeks old he had open heart surgery to save his life. As a way to thank the Children’s Hospital in Brandon and to help other children with similar problems, Carson has been fundraising for them all his life. Every year he and his brother and sister, Brody and Jaydn, take part in an 11 mile walk through the city of Brandon to raise money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. To date they have raised over $100,000.
Carson’s debut as Billy Elliot on 27-Oct-2016 makes him the 169th young actor to play the role worldwide.
