Simon Bakonyi was 11 years old (D.O.B = 18-Aug-2005) when he made his debut as Billy Elliot in the Hungarian production of BETM at the Erkel Theatre in Budapest. He is from Budapest, where he lives with his parents and three brothers.
Simon has been dancing almost his whole life. He is a student at Madách Dance and Acting School and has been dancing there since he was just four years old.
Simon has lots of previous experience performing on stage. His theatre credits include:
- ‘Michael’ in Peter Pan at RaM Colosseum in Budapest (2015)
- Jesus Christ Superstar at the Főnix Hall, which is a large arena in Debrecen (Nov 2016)
- ‘Young Don Lockwood’ in Singin’ in the Rain at the Budapest Opera (Feb 2017)
Simon first auditioned for the 2016 season of BETM but was told that he was too small at that time. He then heard about the casting call for the second season and applied again, and this time he was successfully cast in the lead role.
Simon’s debut performance on 9-Jul-2017 makes him the 199th actor in the world to play the role of Billy Elliot in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
