A production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM), billed as the “Western Australian Amateur Premiere,” will be presented at the Koorliny Arts Centre in Kwinana, Australia, from March 20-28, 2026.
Owned and operated by the City of Kwinana, Koorliny Arts Centre is an award-winning theatre and entertainment venue that presents shows, workshops, and classes for the whole family. From musical theatre and play productions to school holiday performances and daytime concerts, Koorliny offers a diverse range of performing arts and dance classes, art workshops, and community activities.

Billy Elliot The Musical
Auditions for BETM were announced in October 2025 and held on November 1 & 2.
The show is being directed by Rp van der Westhuizen. The rest of the creative team has Kate Leeder as choreographer, Hannah Harn as Assistant Choreographer and Tara Oorjitham is the Musical Director. The creative team didn’t take long after auditions were complete to announce the cast.
According to Director van der Westhuizen, bringing Billy Elliot to life in Kwinana was over a year in the making, as pre-production began early in 2025.
Rehearsals for several cast members commenced before the start of the new year. Related van der Westhuizen:
“We have been learning the choreography and vocals, and piecing the show together since then, and it has been both the most challenging and rewarding experience for us all. This show truly carries some kind of magic that means our cast have just really loved and excelled in bringing this story to life.”
The 39-member cast is led by Lucas Johnson in the title role of Billy Elliot.
