Dorian Grobet was 12 years old (D.O.B. = 24-Sep-2007) when he debuted as Billy in the Chilean production of BETM at the Teatro Municipal de las Condes in Santiago.
Before auditioning for the role of Billy, Dorian was familiar with the story, as he had seen the original film. He recalls watching the film at school: “We watched it at school because it talks about equality, and that not only women can do ballet.”
When Dorian went for his first audition in late 2018 he already had some training in both classical dance and singing. After a successful first audition, he was then invited, along with other Billy hopefuls, to start intense training before the final audition for the role. So Dorian was given more training in ballet and singing, and he added gymnastics and tap dance to his repertoire. Six months down the line Dorian was chosen as one of two boys to star as Billy in Chile — the other being Facundo Yedro.
Since the full-on training and rehearsal schedule began in March 2019, Dorian has had to fit his school work in during breaks in rehearsal.
The following brief video shows Dorian in rehearsals with the rest of the cast:
With his debut as Billy Elliot on 5-Oct-2019, Dorian becomes the 284th actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
