Iker Castell was 14 years old (D.O.B. = 8-Feb-2007) when he debuted as Billy in the Spanish production of BETM at the Teatre Victòria in Barcelona. He is from Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
Iker started dancing when he was six years old. He began with hip hop then added urban contemporary. He has competed at many dance competitions over the years. Iker has also appeared in a number of television commercials and he is represented by the agency Face of Music Barcelona.
BETM wasn’t Iker’s first stage experience. In summer 2019 he performed in Titus Andronicus at Parc de l’Estació del Nord.
Before his audition for BETM, Iker was a fan of the film: “I saw Billy Elliot more than 100 times. Every afternoon I would put it on and think, I want to look like this actor”, he says. He heard about the auditions for BETM in Barcelona via social media. After successfully winning a place at the Barcelona Billy school, Iker began training for the role of Billy in March 2019. He said that the training schedule was hard, but exciting. He trained at the school five days a week — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday — for about two and a half hours each day.
Iker’s debut performance as Billy on 12-Oct-2021 made him the 315th young actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
When he is older Iker wants to be a dancer and a musical theatre actor. He is hoping that performing in BETM will open many doors for him.
