Joan García was 13 years old (D.O.B. = 28-Sep-2004) when he made his debut as Billy Elliot in the Sala Cabanyes production of BETM in Mataró, Spain. He is from Mataró.
Joan has trained in dance at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. He first auditioned for the role of Billy in October 2016 and was chosen as one of two young actors to share the role. Joan has spent the last year and a half honing all the skills he would need to play Billy including ballet, tap, singing and acting in preparation for the opening of the show.
With his debut performance as Billy Elliot on 3-Mar-2018, Joan becomes the world’s 237th young actor to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
BETM will once again be performed at the Sala Cabanyes in Mataró in their 2019 season. Joan will reprise his role as Billy for these performances, sharing the role with Quim Font, as was the case in 2018. Joan, who is now 14 years old, will also perform in the role of Older Billy at a couple of performances this season.
