Jorge Lamelas was 13 years old (D.O.B. = 31-Aug-2006) when he made his debut as Billy in the Madrid production of BETM. Before his involvement in BETM, Jorge lived in Marbella in southern Spain, and his performance training took place at Escuela Superior de Artes Escénicas de Málaga (ESAEM).
Jorge first auditioned for BETM in 2017 before the production had opened. He was just 10 years old at the time. Over 250 young boys from across Spain attended the auditions and Jorge was one of 17 boys who were then chosen to begin training with the hope of eventually appearing in the musical. At this point Jorge relocated to Madrid, and there he now attends International College Spain (ICS) for his schooling.
Despite not being in the original cast of BETM when it premiered in Madrid in October 2017, it wasn’t long before he got his chance to appear on the Nuevo Teatro Alcalá stage. On December 2, 2017 Jorge debuted as Tall Boy and has played this role in the musical for the past two years.
During this time Jorge continued his training at the Billy Elliot School in Madrid in the hope that he would one day be able to play Billy. This involved going straight from school to training at the theatre each day and staying until 9.30pm, or 11.30pm if he was in that evening’s performance.
Jorge did take a short break from the show to play a role in the upcoming Portuguese film Fatima, which is due to be released on April 24, 2020.
After over two years of auditioning and training, Jorge finally gets his chance to star as the lead role in BETM. His debut performance as Billy on 31-Oct-2019 makes him the 290th actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
