    Meet Billy Elliot: Kazuki Mirai

Note:  Kazuki Mirai’s final show as Billy in the Japanese production of Billy Elliot the Musical (BETM) was in Tokyo on September 28, 2017.

Debut: July 21, 2017 (Tokyo, Japan)

Total Performances as Billy:  21 (No partial shows)

Kazuki Mirai was 15 years old (D.O.B. = 30-Sep-2001) when he made his debut as Billy Elliot in Japan.  He is the oldest of the original Japanese Billys.  Kazuki is from Kumamoto Prefecture, and his favorite subjects at school are English and History.  His hobbies include writing songs and playing the piano.

Before auditioning for BETM, Kazuki had taken jazz classes.  During the time he was auditioning, the Kumamoto earthquake took place in his hometown.  At this point Kazuki wondered whether to keep going with his singing and dancing, but was encouraged to continue when someone whose house had been damaged congratulated him on getting through one of the rounds of auditions.  She said to him, “The only thing I look forward to is seeing you go all the way.”  This spurred Kazuki on to work even harder to get the role in order to make his hometown proud.  When it was announced in Dec 2016 that Kazuki had indeed won the role of Billy, I’m sure all the people of Kumamoto Prefecture were overjoyed for him.

When he performs on stage, Kazuki wants to show Billy’s passion.  He likes the emotional scenes in the musical best, with his favorites being The Letter and He Could Be A Star.

Kazuki’s debut performance as Billy Elliot on 21-Jul-2017 made him the 203rd actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
