    Meet Billy Elliot: Omar Abiad

    Note:  Omar Abiad’s final show as Billy in the Australian Tour of Billy Elliot the Musical (BETM) was in Melbourne on March 15, 2020.

    Debut: October 13, 2019 (Sydney, Australia)

    Total Performances as Billy:  35 (No partial shows) 

    Omar Abiad was 12 years old when he made his debut as Billy in the Australian Tour production of BETM.  He is from Brisbane.

    Omar trains in ballet, jazz, tap, singing and musical theatre at the Conroy Dance Centre in Queensland.  He is equally dedicated to his education and hopes one day to be either a doctor or a professional performer.  

    Omar says that he is most excited about taking the show home for the final leg of the tour.  “It will be great when my family and friends are able to see it in Brisbane,” he said.

    Omar is excited and honoured to be making his professional debut as Billy in Billy Elliot the Musical.

    At the Sydney media call Omar played Billy in a performance of the opening number “The Stars Look Down”.  Here’s a video of that performance:

    With his debut performance as Billy on 13-Oct-2019, Omar becomes the 288th actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
