Richard Marques was 14 years old (D.O.B. = 26-Apr-2004) when he made his debut as Billy Elliot in the Brazilian production of BETM at the Teatro Alfa in São Paulo. He is from Diadema, which is a municipality in São Paulo state.
Richard is an experienced ballet dancer, having been dancing from a young age. He trains at Escola De Dança Passo Livre. Richard also has some ballet performing experience, including in December 2018 when he performed in The Nutcracker at Theatro Municipal de São Paulo.
Richard auditioned for the São Paulo production of BETM in October 2018 and was then invited to undertake further training for the next few months. This gave him a chance to improve in disciplines in which he didn’t have much prior experience including acting, singing, tap and acrobatics.
In January 2019 Richard received the great news that he had been cast as one of the three Billys who would star in the São Paulo production.
With his debut performance as Billy Elliot on 16-Mar-2019 Richard becomes the 262nd actor worldwide to play the role in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
