A regional production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) was presented by the Verona Area Community Theater (VACT) in Verona, Wisconsin from October 20-23, 2016. VACT currently stages its shows at the Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center.
VACT was founded in 1992 by Dee Baldock (who plays Grandma in BETM) with the goal of providing affordable opportunities for children and adults to engage and enhance their passions in all facets of theater. It offers six to eight full length productions a season, and at least five of the productions feature children. VACT’s popularity has rapidly increased during recent years, with paid attendance growing from a total of 290 patrons in 1992 to over 8,600 in 2014.
In addition to BETM, other shows presented at VACT this season include Mary Poppins, South Pacific and It’s A Wonderful Life.
Building Their Dream
VACT broke ground in July of 2016 on “our dream rehearsal and performance facility in Central Verona”. Below is an artist’s representation of what the finished facility will look like:
Their large BETM cast of 57 was made up of area acting talent and was led by a young actor new to the title role of Billy Elliot. His name is Pete Pierantozzi.
