A regional production of Billy Elliot the Musical (BETM) was presented at the 475-seat Diamond Head Theatre in Honolulu, Hawaii, from September 23 to October 16, 2016.
The Diamond Head Theatre is the third oldest continuously operating community theatre in the USA. It began in 1915 as a company of theatergoers known as “The Footlights”, and then in 1932, their name changed to “Honolulu Community Theatre”. They performed in many different locations all over Honolulu until 1952 when an Army movie house at Fort Ruger became the theatre’s home. In 1990 the theatre gained its current name – Diamond Head Theatre.
Education is a big part of the Diamond Head Theatre’s mission, as they host year-round classes in dancing, acting and singing, an extensive summer school for children and teens, and a youth performing troupe called the Diamond Head Theatre Shooting Stars. Each year more than 40,000 people attend their shows, over 1,200 students take classes, and almost 600 volunteers help with their performances.
The Diamond Head Theatre cast was led by a young actor, new to the role of Billy. His name is Aaron Ostroff.
