Billy Elliot The Musical was presented by Capital City Productions in Jefferson City, Missouri from August 13-22, 2020. The venue, pictured above, features dinner theatre type productions.
The Capital City Players (CCP) began bringing Mid-Missouri audiences quality dinner theatre entertainment in 1991. Founded by its long time President, Rob Crouse, this not-for-profit community dinner theatre group first brought local talents together to present The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in dinner theatre at the Truman Hotel and Convention Center in Jefferson City. Over the next few years such box office hits as Big River, Chicago, and West Side Story graced the CCP stage as well as the Central Missouri premieres of Jesus Christ Superstar, Aida, Footloose, The Civil War, Mister Roberts, and Ragtime in a variety of venues around the city.
In January 2007 the CCP launched a new era in their history with a theatre home at the Shikles Center on Linden Drive in Jefferson City where this special dining and entertainment experience could be enjoyed year-round.
In the summer of 2016, when founder Rob Crouse was unable to continue full time operation of CCP because of health issues, Nate Grey and a team of other CCP family members picked up the banner with a new organizational name, Capital City Productions (CCP), and an expanded array of theatrical services for the community. The new CCP has not only increased the high-quality professional level of dinner theatre productions which have been CCP’s hallmark, but now offer a summer children’s two-week workshop and production, hold acting, dancing, and technical classes, and raises money for other not-for-profit organizations through a new CCP Pay It Forward program.
In December 2019, CCP took its final bow at the Shikles Center, moving to its new location on Wicker Lane in Jefferson City. The new location almost triples the space of CCP’s former home, and allows for a larger stage and audience space, bathrooms, a lobby, dressing rooms, a shop, buffet room and kitchen. At full capacity, it seats 288 guests, double the previous occupancy. Most tables seat eight, but there are also up to 16 smaller tables for couples. Of course these numbers are reduced given the CORVID-19 restrictions at the time of this production.
The 2020 Mainstage season at CCP includes Bonnie & Clyde: A New Musical (May/June) Something Rotten (July), Billy Elliot: The Musical (August), Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical (October) and Elf: The Musical (December).

CCP’s production of BETM was co-directed by Dr. Laura Vendenhaupt & Nate Grey (who is also CCP’s President), and starred Cole Riney as Billy leading a cast of 24 in the first BETM production to open world-wide since all productions of the show closed in March due to the Corvid-19 pandemic.
In an interview given just before the show opened, in the Jefferson City News Tribune, Vedenhaupt said the cast and crew had been working for eight weeks to get ready for the show and they are absolutely ready.” She added “People should come see the show for its beautiful message to believe in yourself and in your dreams”.
