The 475 seat Montgomery Theater in downtown San Jose, California played host to the CMT Marquee production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM) from April 22 to May 1, 2016. It was the first northern Californian regional theater organization to stage BETM under the licensing agreement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
CMT is the oldest performing arts organization in San Jose, now in its 48th year. The mission of CMT is to “train and educate today’s youth through musical theater to set and achieve high artistic and personal goals and to inspire them to become exemplary artists, patrons and citizens of tomorrow.”
Each year, CMT mounts 10 core productions at the Montgomery Theater in downtown San Jose: five Rising Stars productions (cast members between the ages of 8-14), three Mainstage productions (cast members between the ages of 14-20), and two Marquee shows that include current CMT youngsters, aged 6-19, and also showcase the talents of emerging Bay Area performing artists, including many CMT alumni. Billy Elliot The Musical is one of this season’s Marquee productions.
The cast was led by a local ballet dancer named Matthew Dean, a newbie to the role of Billy Elliot. Indeed, this will be Matthew’s theatrical debut.
