The Atwood Concert Hall seats approximately 2,000 and consists of three levels (orchestra, mezzanine and balcony). A horseshoe-shaped parterre surrounds the center floor section of the orchestra. It will host the Anchorage Concert Association‘s production of Billy Elliot The Musical (BETM), from February 14-19, 2017.
The producing theater organization, the Anchorage Concert Association, was founded in 1950 by a group of classical music enthusiasts. They were committed to bringing the finest classical musicians to perform for the people of Anchorage.
Today, the Association’s purpose includes presenting internationally acclaimed artists from the entire spectrum of the performing arts in Alaska. Since 1950 the Anchorage Concert Association has presented more than 700 performances of the world’s finest music, dance and theatre. The Association is the largest performing arts presenter in Alaska and acts as an anchor in the touring schedules of artists as they come through the Northwest. More than 75,000 people of every age, income level and cultural background will attend an Anchorage Concert Association performance during an average season.
Billy Elliot The Musical is being brought to Anchorage in collaboration with Plan-B Entertainment, which is celebrating 10 years of developing, presenting and producing high-caliber theatrical events across the United States. It delivers top tier national and regional tours of Broadway shows, as well as exciting original works from coast-to-coast. Plan-B is led by Andy Ferrara who will be producing and directing the Anchorage production of BETM.
This production of BETM was mounted in Los Angeles, where auditions were held in December of 2016 and where most of the rehearsals for the show were held in January and early February, 2017.
Its production of BETM is the first of two big musicals being offered during the 2017 season in Anchorage (the other being Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in April). The actors in this production of BETM come from all over the country and will be led by a young man playing the title role for a second time — Braden King, who is from Virginia.
