Lochlan Denholm was 13-years-old (D.O.B. = 10-Dec-1993) when he debuted as Billy in the Sydney production of BETM. He is from Melbourne, Victoria, and was a student at Koonung Secondary College.
Lochlan has always been into sports and music. At just six years of age he started doing diving and gymnastics. Then, when he was eight-years-old he stopped diving in order to focus on his gymnastics, for which he went on to represent Victoria at the 2005 National Championships in Sydney.
In 2005 Lochlan started to be interested in dance, and he took up funk and tap at the Gay Wightman School of Ballet. He then expanded his dance repertoire by starting to learn classical ballet in 2006.
Lochlan made his debut as Billy Elliot on 15-Nov-2007, the second of the Sydney Billys to do so. This also made him the 15th Billy worldwide. As Lochlan had a strong background in gymnastics and hip hop, his dance routine in “Electricity” during the show was more street-focused compared to the other Australian Billys, who focused more on ballet.
Along with the other three original Sydney Billys, Lochlan won the 2007 Best Actor in a Musical Award at the Helpmann Awards.
Due to an injury, Lochlan had to take some time off from performing in February and March 2008. Corey Snide, who was a Billy in the London production at the time, returned to the Sydney show to cover for him. Corey had previously performed in the Sydney show as a cover for Nick Twiney, who had sustained an injury earlier in the run.
Lochlan took his final bow as Billy when the show’s run in Sydney came to an end. He performed for the last time on 1-Nov-2008, almost a year after he made his his debut in the role.
Post Billy Activities
