Lachlan King is from the Newcastle area and was a Year 8 student at Hunter School of Performing Arts when he debuted as Billy Elliot in Tuggerah.
Lachlan is known to Australian BETM fans from his previous portrayal of Michael in the summer 2023 Star Gold Coast BETM production. In the photo, below, see Lachlan to the left right of Mrs W with the glasses and hat.
He has also performed in several other productions including Bonnie & Clyde, The Addams Family, The Boy From Oz (Young Peter) at Red Tree Theatre and, most recently, in the Spring of 2025, as Greg Heffley in the High Street Production of Diary of a Whimpy Kid in Waratah, Australia.
Lachlan is also just one of 52 students selected statewide for prominent positions in the annual Schools Spectacular production, which showcases more than 5,500 NSW public school performers. This year’s event will be held on 28-29 November, 2025 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Lachlan’s combination of acting and vocal talent is on display in this video, which is described as “Tenor drummer, Lachlan King, put his years of theatre training to good use by reciting ‘The Ode to the Haggis’ at a local Burns Night”. The Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns.
Upon his debut as Billy in Tuggerah on the opening night of the production there, Lachlan becomes the 383rd performer in the world to portray Billy Elliot on stage in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
